Welcome to Drum Therapy Association
Mission
The Drum Therapy Association (DTA) is a 501 (C)(3) non profit organization that licenses and regulates Drum Therapy®, Drum Therapists, and the Healing Art of Drum Therapy® throughout the world. We set the standard in regulating, implementing, and advancing Drum Therapy, in an effort to help the special needs population live happier, healthier lives.
Drum Therapy® helps the special needs population to develop retention, coordination, fine motor skills, speech, behavior modification, physical and cognitive functioning, sensory integration, and social skills.
Law enforcement agencies, mental health facilities, child protection service agencies, and numerous disability associations use our organization to assist with case management, crisis management, ptsd, active suicide prevention, and physical harm de-escalation, in school systems, health facilities, mental health facilities, and community centers. Doctors, Psychologists, Special Education Teachers, Social Workers, Drum Teachers, and Special Needs Therapists in over 15 countries are Certified Drum Therapists. The Healing Art of Drum Therapy® is conducted in both one-on-one and group therapy sessions.
The pioneering techniques of Drum Therapy® combine the principals of physical and cognitive functioning and drumming. It is used as an intervention to provide the special needs community with the opportunity to participate in creative, verbal, and non-verbal expression. Neuroscientists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech Therapists, Drummers, and Special Education Teachers throughout the world are licensed in Drum Therapy.®
Drum Therapy® helps participants to learn problem-solving strategies, improve patience and perseverance, and helps to develop coordination and retention. It also nurtures sensitivity and cooperation. It will also aid in conflict resolution processing.
Drum Therapy® is beneficial to all participants. The population targets are both children and adults with special needs. It will help those with disabilities that effect, impact, and/or reduce physical and/or cognitive functioning. The non-threatening, fun nature of Drum Therapy,® makes it appealing to all age groups. Participant’s music abilities and works are not graded. The program modalities are specifically tailored to meet their specific needs. Previous skills are not required.
